BIOGRAPHYTurntables are no match for this young award winning Disc Jockey, DJ M-Vee. He was born into a family of disc jockeys, including his oldest brother, uncles and grandfather. His bloodline never veered too far from its roots to the music industry, where even his father worked for Abbey Road Records/ Distribution; one of the largest west coast music distributors in the 90’s. From this foundation, M-Vee took on DJing at the early age of 14; developing an inimitable skill not taught by his predecessors. By 16, DJ M-Vee, the youngest member of the elite DJ group Coalition One DJ's, had already created “With These Hands Mix Academy” with over 100 Club members at North Mecklenburg High School (Charlotte, NC). It was the first and only DJ club in the southeast of the country, at its time, which taught methods of musical modification, DJ history fundamentals, principles and theories. At 16, he was DJing for the Latino club scene at five locations in the Charlotte night life. This included Loft 1523, Halo, Sunset Club, Luna Lounge and Black Bear Saloon.
With his assorted musical style, DJ M-Vee, at 17, began playing the Open Format and by 18 got into the Rave (dance music) scene. At 19, this young DJ is well known among the college circuit, controlling the college market as much as he does the club scene. In 2009, he received the Disc Jockey of the Year award from Charlotte Music Awards, showcasing the best of the best in Charlotte and the Carolinas, in various musical divisions. Since 2009, M-Vee has been a DJ Instructor at With These Hands Sprite DJ Academy, teaching creative arts, cultural awareness, conflict resolution and Disc Jockey lessons.
In 2010, DJ M-Vee became the First Place winner of the Global Fusion DJ Battle. This competition tested his dexterity by blending together musical forms from three or more countries worldwide. In 2011, he made history as the youngest DJ to compete in the Inkfest Live DJ Battle-We Are the Champions title (WATC). He was a second round qualifier in this illustrious expert league of the highest caliber DJ'S nationwide; competing against nationally respected DJs such as California’s DJ Etronik and DJ Schmeeze. DJ M-Vee notably earned his way into the music field with his vast understanding of the art of DJing. In 2013, he became the Station Manager for University of North Carolina at Charlotte student run station Radio Free Charlotte (RFC). He is actively working with the station collaborating with major companies and labels such as Livenation, Life In Color, Lionsgate, Paramount, XL Recordings, Universal, Columbia, Def Jam, and Stealth Records.
When DJ M-Vee is not at RFC, he holds residencies at the Student Union (UNCC) every Thursday in addition to Phoenix CLT every Friday. He hosts and DJs several UNCC campus based events. In the past, DJ M-Vee has dj’d at several uptown Charlotte and surrounding area venues, colleges or events not limited to the Ritz Carlton CLT, Suite, Pfeiffer University, Student Union ( UNCC), Norms & McKnight Hall, Center City, Venus Festival, Neighborhood Theater, Mccoll Theater, Knight Theater, The Chop Shop, Dharma Lounge, Kiss Lounge, Dirty Martini, Kalu and Tutto Mondo. DJ M-Vee will continue to work the college scene and uptown Charlotte venues. He continues to work at the RFC station, which you can stream 24/7 on your computer in Itunes by clicking under College/University on the radio tab. RFC is also heard across all major buildings on campus, Apple TV, Tune In Radio & Streema. “From playing in major nightlife establishments, festivals, winning competitive competitions, radio stations, and working with industry greats, universities and corporate events; I have accomplished more in my short time than most who call themselves vets.” With his signature style mix of euphonious music and high energy, M-Vee is definitely a name to remember as he sets the tone for any event.
